Me, somewhere between Hamilton Pool and the Perdenales river

I’m a software developer living in Austin, Texas.  I set up this blog primarily to document some solutions I come across in my day-to-day tinkering and toiling.  I’ve been writing software since the QBasic days of the third grade, usually to fill a personal need to which a solution didn’t exist or was too expensive.

I attended college at Texas A&M University, where I studied Electrical Engineering.  I continued on to A&M’s archnemesus, The University of Texas where I got a masters in computer engineering.

In my college years I became interested in the open source movement and the rise of web applications.  I’m a big fan of Gentoo Linux which is the subject of many posts on this blog.  The Symfony PHP web framework has become a recent passion along with YUI, an extremely well designed and well-written javascript framework.  I’m also very interested in networking (er, computer networking) and some of the neat stuff you can do when you understand the design of the internet.

I like to try new technologies whenever I can but often forget what I learned in the process.  I set up this blog to jot down some of the interesting things I stumble upon.  Hopefully it will be helpful to a few other people along the way.

When I’m not being a geek I’m hanging out with my new bride usually at the Austin greenbelt with our dog, going to watch some great texas country artists or riding my road bike around Austin.
